Ravi Gurumurthy

Chief Executive Officer, Nesta

Ravi joined Nesta in December 2019, having previously founded and led the Airbel Innovation Lab at the International Rescue Committee where he was responsible for designing, testing and scaling products and services for people affected by crisis in over 40 countries, from reducing acute malnutrition to expanding employment for refugees.

Prior to joining the International Rescue Committee in 2013, Ravi held a number of roles in the UK Government, including Director of Strategy at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and strategic advisor to the Foreign Secretary. During this period, Ravi led a number of major social and environmental reforms including the development of the world’s first legally binding carbon emissions targets and the integration of children’s services.

Ravi has also worked as a researcher at the think-tank Demos and in local government in London.

Ravi's comments on the Third Sector Digital Awards this year -

"It is a striking feature of every humanitarian crisis that when people are faced with scarcity and the most severe constraints, they innovate. In a matter of weeks, we have seen the digitisation of healthcare and classrooms - a change that had previously been conceived on a decades-long timeframe. Citizens are finding new ways to support their neighbours, and scientists are finding new ways to collaborate.

I am excited to be part of the Third Sector Digital Awards, where this kind of leadership and innovation are on centre stage. While every organisation has been forced to adapt, many are also redefining what is possible with digital solutions. On the judging panel, I will be on the lookout for entries that demonstrate new ways of creating greater impact - that transform the scale, double the effect size, or half the costs of current solutions."
